Upcoming BlackBerry Colt QNX-based Smartphone

RIM has unveiled the BlackBerry Colt, which is known as the company's first QNX-based smartphone. Powered by a single core processor, the handset has a similar form factor to the BlackBerry Bold. Sprint-branded BlackBerry Bold Touch 9930 spotted

We've already seen Verizon's BlackBerry Bold Touch 9930, and now it's time to take a peek at the version for Sprint, which has just appeared in an officially-looking render.

Sure enough, Sprint's 9930 is not different from Verizon's version, but it's good to see it – since this is some sort of a confirmation that the third largest US carrier will sell it it someday. Sadly, we don't know when exactly this will happen. But we know that the Bold Touch 9930 won't be the carrier's only BlackBerry 7 smartphone, since the Torch 9850 should also be launched (sometime “this fall”).

Like the 9900 (its GSM/HSDPA-only edition), the BlackBerry Bold 9930 features a 2.8 inch VGA touchscreen display, Wi-Fi, GPS, 3.5mm headset jack, 5MP rear camera with 720p video recording, 768MB of RAM, 8GB of on-board memory, and a 1.2GHz single-core processor.

BlackBerry App World 3.0 beta now available

Research In Motion announced on Friday that BlackBerry App World 3.0 is now available for download from the BlackBerry Beta Zone. The updated app store offers a number of improvements, including the ability to search for applications directly from the new home screen. Users will be able to sort search results by name, price, rating, release date, best match and most popular. RIM also added quick access to “Games” and “Themes” subcategories directly on the new home screen. “Spotlight banners” will showcase hot new applications that RIM wants to highlight, too. Finally, users can choose to share new applications via Facebook, Twitter, BBM, SMS or email.

RIM BlackBerry App World 3.0 beta adds home screen search, social media features

How better to celebrate your billionth download than with a brand new app store? RIM just rolled out App World 3.0 beta to its Beta Zone users, bringing with it a redesigned home screen created to "let you quickly find what BlackBerry app, game or theme you're looking for." Seems a bit overdue if you ask us, but better late than never, as the idiom goes. There are also new home screen icons for Games and BlackBerry Themes - the store's two most popular categories. (Yes, Themes really is one of the two most popular categories... behind Games, we hope.) You can also flick between app summaries, screenshots, and reviews from one screen, and share links to your favorite apps over Twitter, Facebook, email, SMS, and BBM. You may find it difficult to get too excited about an app store update, but for those of us who use BlackBerrys despite the occasionally less-than-stellar app experience, anything RIM can do to streamline the procurement process is more than welcome.

RIM Unveils An Armada Of BlackBerry 7 Phones, Claims It's Third Largest BlackBerry Launch In History!

In fact, it is the first batch of BlackBerry 7 phones that RIM released. Interestingly, two of the devices are all-touch based carrying the BlackBerry Torch 9800 legacy forward with their hybrid form factors while the other, the BlackBerry Bold, certainly is the first candybar genie from the Bold series to sport the new OS.

First in the series, the BlackBerry Torch 9810 features a large 3.7" screen with a display resolution of 800×48- pixels, a standard BlackBerry physical keyboard that slides smoothly from under the incredibly beautiful screen, and of course 1.2 GHz of sheer bit-crunching machine under the hood.

The CPU is flanked by 768MB of RAM. A 5 megapixel camera enables 720p HD video recording and impressive image shooting. This makes it the first of BB7 phones the first to feature HD-video recording.

RIM also announced BlackBerry Bold 9900 and BlackBerry Torch 9860. The BlackBerry 9850x9860 features a 3.7"capacitive touch display, same core-hardware under the hood as the BlackBerry 9810, a 5 megapixel HD camera, high-speed 4G internet connectivity and the fast and improved Wikitude browser.

The devices are set to launch on a number of carriers including AT&T which is marketing the BlackBerry Torch 2 as the first 4G BlackBerry phone available through its network. Users can take advantage of high-speed internet connectivity to browse the web, remain connected to their social networks, shop online and do much more.

Other interesting features include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, onboard GPS, digital compass, 8 gigabytes of onboard storage with support for up to 32GB of expandable memory using a microSD card, HSPA+ connectivity and much more.

Features include a 24-bit high resolution display, a 1.2 GHz processor, 720p HD video recording, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, social networking integration and much more.

The AT&T BlackBerry Torch 9810 will hit the shelves in August while the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and the BlackBerry Torch 9860 will be available in the market subsequently after the former launches.

AT&T, which has been carrying BlackBerry smartphones for over a decade, explains:

"Exclusive to AT&T customers, the next-generation 4G BlackBerry Torch 9810 is faster and more fluid with high performance hardware features and the new BlackBerry® 7 OS delivering an enhanced multimedia experience... A powerful evolution of the BlackBerry software, BlackBerry 7 OS delivers speed, efficiency and UI enhancements and enables new hardware capabilities, including HD video recording, more fluid and responsive graphics, digital compass, and augmented reality."

BlackBerry Torch 9810 is exclusive to AT&T customers while the BlackBerry Torch 9860 will be available through AT&T, Rogers, Telus and Bell. The BlackBerry Troch 9860, on the other hand, will be available through Sprint and U.S. Cellular.

RIM co-CEO, Mike Lazaridis stated that:

RIM Releases BlackBerry App World 3.0 Beta, Brings Lot Of Features & Improvements!

To begin with, the new BlackBerry AppWorld 3.0 beta brings an amazing new user interface with redesigned features. The addition of a Search App Bar on the home screen is one of the several differences one may immediately notice at the first glance.

The new search from home screen feature enables users to quickly search for popular apps, games and themes right from the home screen, effortlessly. Secondly, two of the most popular App World categories including Games and Themes have been added to the homescreen as icons.

This allows the users to quickly browse through the games and themes available on the BlackBerry World right from the home screen, without having to launch the App World first and browse through the categories. Saves time and effort for BlackBerry aficionados (like us) who frequently hit the App World for interesting new themes and games.

Another interesting change is the Spotlight Banners that shows featured apps including the top 25 lists for Free, Paid, Recently Updated and New from the specified categories. Quick Glimpse: The All-New Wikitude Browser Of The BlackBerry 7 OS

RIM has employed something it calls as Liquid Graphics that sprawls right from the device's homescreen to the web browser and gaming zone. The Wikitude web browser is also layered by the Liquid Graphics.

It offers incredibly smooth browsing experience, flawless pan and zoom, better navigation experience and much more. As far as the true substance is concerned, RIM claims that you can browse up to 40% faster than the previous BlackBerry browsers.

Another interesting feature of the Wikitude browser is its support for augmented reality applications, and the ability to take full advantage of the BlackBerry 7 OS. A video demo showing the BlackBerry 7 Wikitude browser in action awaits you right after the dot. Go, feast your eyes.

Other interesting features of the browser include the ability to blend real and virtual worlds "via the Camera viewfinder to provide immediate and relevant data about one's surroundings." One can also choose to use Wikitude browser with BBM6 to locate BBM buddies near by.

BlackBerry App World 3.0 Beta now available to try

Team RIM and the 'boys in the labs' have been working on the latest iteration of the Blackberry App World, version 3.0 and it seems that they're pretty pleased with the results.

The changes are apparent from the off with a completely redesigned home screen which has re-prioritized functionality in the form of the new App World search bar. The search system allows you to sort by app name, price, rating, newest, best match and popular, in an attempt to streamline the search process. Underneath this sits the spotlight banner; showing the latest and most popular apps, akin to both the App Store and Android Market on their respective devices and rounding off the new home screen, there are now five new icons down at the bottom which are referred to as 'top level channels'. Two of the upper three icons, 'Games', and 'Themes' denote the most popular categories typically searched on the App World and the new 'My Account' option gives users easier/faster access to things like their BBID and payment options, handy.

Information on each app has now been consolidated into a single screen which you can swipe left or right with, in order to see its summary, screenshots and reviews. The 3.0 update coincides nicely with the announcement of three new devices alongside the launch of BB OS 7 and as with the enhancements to the OS, App World 3.0 has a focus on sharing. Team BlackBerry have tried to make it easier for users to share apps with their friends, with quick access to popular social services like Twitter and Facebook or SMS, email and BBM sharing.

It's a welcome improvement that helps move the Blackberry image forward and brings its app store more inline with its main competitors. RIM still need to think about how they can drive the 'cool' factor a little harder but this design definitely brings them up to date.

BlackBerry Bold 9900 to be lunched by T-Mobile USA on August 31?

Announced by RIM back in May, the BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 still hasn't been released anywhere in the world. But it should hit the shelves this month – not only in the UK, where Vodafone and O2 are getting ready to launch the handset, but also in the US.

Phone Arena has received an image which suggests that T-Mobile USA would offer the new Bold starting August 31.There's no word on its price yet, but the leaked document reads that the 9900 will be offered with a $50 mail-in rebate. Most likely, the smartphone – which runs BlackBerry OS 7 and features a 2.8 inch VGA touchscreen display – will be sold for $199.99 on contract.

AT&T Introduces RIM's BlackBerry Torch 9810 4G Smartphone

AT&T will release the new BlackBerry Torch 9810. This 4G smartphone is powered by the BlackBerry 7 OS that provides an easier and faster user experience with improved browsing, voice-activated searches, the ability to manage personal content separately from corporate content, as well as additional personal and productivity apps out of the box. The BlackBerry Torch 9810 also features a full QWERTY keyboard, a sliding display, a 1.2GHz processor, an 8GB of onboard memory, a microSD card slot (up to 32GB), 720p video capture, WiFi and support for the carrier's HSPA+ network. BlackBerry Torch 9810 revealed on AT&T's website

We first saw the Blackberry Torch 9810 back in June, and we have good news for those of you interested in the successor to the Blackberry Torch. A coming soon page has just popped up on AT&T's website revealing the Blackberry Torch 9810.

The Torch 9810 will be the world's first 4G BlackBerry according to AT&T, although that really depends on your definition of 4G since this phone will run on AT&T's HSPA+ network rather than its upcoming LTE network. The Torch 2 spots a 1.2 GHz processor, a full QWERTY keyboard and sliding display, 8GB of memory on board(expandable up to 32 GB), BlackBerry OS 7.0, and 720p HD video recording.

No information on a price or release date, but we will keep you updated on that when new information becomes available.

RIM officially announces - the Bold 9900, Torch 9810 and 9860

The BlackBerry Media event in London just concluded and this is what we've got so far: the new BlackBerry Bold (previously known as Bold Touch) 9900x9930 (UMTS/CDMA), the BlackBerry Torch 9810 and Torch 9860x9850 (UMTS/CDMA), which was previously rumored by the names of BB Touch and Monza. All the devices are powered by single-core 1.2GHz processors with 768MB RAM and all have NFC support.

The BlackBerry Bold (also known as Bold Touch) is the thinnest BlackBerry device so far at 10.5mm. It runs the BlackBerry OS 7, and utilizes a 1.2GHz CPU, 8 gigs of expandable memory and a 2.8" VGA (640x480) 287 dpi (close to the Retina's 326 dots per inch) capacitive touchscreen. It has a 5 MP autofocus camera with 720p video recording. In terms of looks, it takes after the previous line of Bold devices with no significant changes to the exterior. It's made out of high-quality brushed stainless steel.

The BlackBerry Torch 9810 is a touchscreen device with a slide-down QWERTY keyboard. It has 253 dpi screen, 1.2GHz processor, NFC chip and will be powered by the BlackBerry OS 7. The Torch 9860 will be 11.5mm thick with a 15:9 aspect ratio screen, which is 3.69" with a WSVGA (800x480) resolution with 253 dpi. It also has 5 MP camera with autofocus and 720p video recording. Prior to this official announcement, the Torch 9860 was know by its codename, Monza.

The BlackBerry Messenger 6 ships on the new OS by default. It's quite more social and focuses on easier sharing.

The 9860 and 9900 should officially launch September in the US, UK, most of Europe and presumably Canada, while the 9810 will launch this month by AT&T.

A few months ago at the BlackBerry world event, people weren't too pleased when RIM only announced one new device at the show - the BlackBerry Bold 9900x9930, because there were quite a number of BlackBerry phones that were leaked prior to the event and everybody was expecting those other phones to be revealed as well. The phones probably weren't ready or finalized back then, but it looks like they're ready today. RIM has officially announced the specs of the BlackBerry Bold 9900x9930, BlackBerry Torch 9810 and BlackBerry Torch 9850x9860 on its website today. Here is a rundown of what to expect from those phones:

The BlackBerry Bold 9900x9930 is what we've seen before: a 1.2GHz processor, 768MB of RAM, 2.8″ touchscreen display (640 x 480), 8GB of storage (expandable SD card slot supports up to 32GB), Voice Activated universal search, NFC capabilities, HSPA+ support, 5-megapixel rear camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, optical trackpad and a QWERTY keyboard.

The BlackBerry Torch 9810 has been leaked before as well, but never officially announced. It packs a 1.2GHz processor, 8GB of onboard memory (expandable SD card slot supports up to 32GB), 768MB of RAM, 3.2″ 640 x 480 display, 5-megapixel rear camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, slide out QWERTY keyboard. It looks pretty much like the original Torch, albeit with a different back.

The BlackBerry Torch 9850x9860 will be a larger version of the Torch, featuring a 3.7″ 800 x 480 display (the largest for a BlackBerry device), a 1.2GHz processor, 768MB of RAM, 4GB internal storage (expandable SD card slot supports up to 32GB), GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi, and a 5-megapixel camera.

All three phones will be running on BlackBerry 7 OS. No word on pricing or release date, except for the Bold which is said to be arriving on August 31st. Anybody excited for these new phones?

BlackBerry PlayBook Android App Support Delayed Until Late Fall

The BlackBerry PlayBook keeps us interested for one reason and one reason alone: its promised ability to run Android applications through the use of emulation software. The RIM tablet shipped without the functionality out of the box, but an update including the Android App Player was said to be coming this summer. We have seen a leaked version of the App Player in that time, but still no official update. It doesn’t look like it’s coming any time soon, after all. According to sources speaking with Engadget, the PlayBook won’t be officially running Android applications until late into the fall. With the tablet off to a rocky start and the appeal of the feature being quite the selling point, having the feature deployed by the start of the holiday season smells a bit like “do or die” at this point.
