RIM's BlackBerry Java SDK v7.0 Beta Now Available

Research in Motion has unveiled a beta BlackBerry Java software development kit (SDK) v7.0, offering developers a chance to test their apps on their BlackBerry 7 operating systems.

The SDK includes simulators for the new BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone devices and will allow developers to prepare their apps in time for the handsets' launch. The BlackBerry App World is currently accepting app submissions for the new devices.

According to Blackberry's website, some of the system's new capabilities include AR (augmented reality) and Open GL ES 2.0 support.

In addition, and in an effort to stay ahead of the game, near field communications (NFC) capabilities will also be available for mobile commerce. The contactless payment and authorization system has been generating quite some buzz, allowing mobile phone users to make purchases with their devices with touch-and-go like methods.

The BlackBerry Java Plug-in for Eclipse and the BlackBerry Java Development Environment have been updated to support the BlackBerry 7 OS as well.

The BlackBerry Java SDK v7.0 Beta is available for download now.
